Entry: Just Another Seattle Data Point Saturday, October 04, 2008

At one point, I ordered pizza, as we do in this great land of ours amen.  I noticed that if you ordered two eleven inch pizzas, the second was significantly discounted, so I ordered two identical eleven inchers.  The kid on the phone opined that a single seventeen inch pizza would be a better deal, because, for roughly the same total price, it contained more pizza bulk.

"So," I asked, "you've worked out the math on this?"

To which he replied with neither a hint of surprise nor a trace of irony that, yeah, he had - you know, area is πr2 and all that.

(I'm slightly ashamed not to have worked this out on my own, but, given that I was calling for pizza, I obviously wasn't in a terribly analytical mood.)

At this point I realized that Seattle is not entirely similar to other places.
