The Great Pacific Garbage Patch Kids

It is very difficult - for US - to see what is directly in front of our faces.  So what IS?  Short version:  Everything is terrible, and there is no hope.  That should send most of you scurrying off to look at porn.  Have a nice day, meat puppets.

Let's start with the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.  Do you see anything being done about that?  And that's just a flashy symptom of something much more pervasive and terminal.  Aside from global warming, we have species loss, pollution, overpopulation, ozone depletion, and deforestation to consider.  Oh, and there is the small matter of a four foot rise in ocean levels anticipated in the next 100 years due to deglacination, loss of ice sheets over Greenland, and reduced polar ice caps.

You were warned, throughout the seventies, and back to the sixties at least, that if something wasn't done - and soon - it would be too late.  Did you figure you could blow it off, come back to it in a few decades, and then be told "Well, we exaggerated, of course.  You're just in time to fix it and make everything better again.  Just start recycling, and we can stop filming Children of Men II: The Documentary.

Guess what?  The world doesn't care that you weren't up for it back then.  And now, It Is Too Late, Asshole.  It is going to happen.  There isn't even enough political will to slow it down - which would require global reduction in fossil fuel usage, pesticide usage, mono-culture, timber harvesting, chemical and materials manufacturing, procreation, shipping...  Even if all that were conceivable, it still would happen, but maybe an iota less

Doom?  Yes.

Hybrid cars?  Composting?  Local produce?  How cute!   It's fun watching you pat yourself on the back as you rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.  Speaking of which...

Floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunami, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions...  And finally, civil wars, rioting, famine, plague, depopulation... It's too late.

The war in Afghanistan, 9/11, the ongoing economic crisis...  TRIVIA.  Think on Katrina, Haiti, the flooding in Pakistan which exceeds both in scope, and all of the increasingly frequent "natural" disasters of the past decades.  Do the math.  How much death, immediate and indirect, may we expect?

Or, as R. Crumb might say:  Kitchee-koo, you bastards!

I said, a couple of decades ago: "it is going to get much worse before it gets better. It seems I was at least half right.
